Compton Football's Sean Thompson Named SCFA Player of Week
The Compton College football team had a SCFA American Division Player of the Week selection for week #2 in wide receiver Sean Thompson.
A 6-foot-4 freshman, Thompson hauled in three touchdown passes of 68, 5, and 30 yards, all from quarterback Malachi Betters, in Compton's 46-38 loss v. LA Valley in week #2 on Sept. 14.
Thompson, who added three kickoff returns for 55 yards, finished with 170 yards receiving on eight receptions.
OTHER COMPTON FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS
In the LA Valley contest, Betters, a letterman, and receiver John Brown set a Compton school record for longest pass play of 99 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Betters passed for 366 yards overall and four TDs while Naszer Reed returned an interception 66 yards for a touchdown. Linebacker Gilbert Tapia made a team-high nine tackles and broke up two passes.
Thompson, who is currently seventh in the SCFA in receptions with 19, totaled 160 all-purpose yards and a 28-yard TD catch in Saturday's loss to LA Southwest. He is also sixth in all-purpose yards average at 162.7 over three games this season.
Betters passed for 160 yards and two TDs while running back Ahmadejai Buckner ran for 51 yards in seven carries, including a 2-yard score.
In the team's season-opening 27-7 defeat v. LA Pierce on Sept. 7, defensive lineman Percy Jackson made a sack and added four quarterback hurries while defensive back Alijah Lagrone had a team-high eight tackles.
Next Saturday, Sept. 28, Compton, directed by head coach David Banuelos, hosts Glendale in a 6 p.m. kickoff at Tay Brown Stadium.
