Compton Basketball's Payero Excelling In Dominican Pro League

Malvin Payero, a member of the 2023-24 Compton College men's basketball team, is playing professional ball in his home country--the Dominican Republic.

Payero, an All-South Coast Conference South Division honorable mention, is currently playing for Del Patio in the LDC League and was averaging 14 points a game in the early going of the season this month.

Last season for Compton, Payero, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 11.4 points and was fourth in the SCC in assists average at a team-leading 4.0 a game. 

He transferred to Compton after playing his freshman season at NCAA Division II Biola University in 2021-22. 

At Compton, Payero played for head coach Keith Hollimon, who will be directing the squad in the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Another recent Compton alumnus Gabriel Ajemian, the team's top scorer in the 2021-22 season, is playing pro ball in his second season for Homentmen in the Lebanese Basketball League.

A 6-foot-4 guard, Ajemian averaged 16.6 points and 5.1 rebounds for Compton, including an amazing 44-point effort in a January, 2022 victory v. El Camino.
