Keishawn Ross Jr. scored a layup with 26 seconds left for the 18th and final lead change between the squads as the Compton College men's basketball team edged visiting Long Beach City, 62-61, on Wednesday night.
The Coyotes (9-12 overall) snapped a 3-game losing streak and won for the first time in three South Coast Conference South Division games.
Ross, who shot 8-for-13 from the field, finished with 17 points and nine rebounds while Elijah Evans (9-for-13) poured in 20 points. Ley McGovern added nine points, five rebounds and three assists off the bench.
McGovern was the only Compton player to reach double digits on 16 points in a tough 88-58 home loss v. state #6-ranked Cerritos on Jan. 23.
The Coyotes close out a 4-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 30 when they host Los Angeles Harbor College in a 5 p.m. division tip-off.
