The Compton College men's basketball team has made a late run in South Coast Conference South Division play, winning three of its last four games to pull into a tie for third place in the heated race.
The Coyotes (11-13 overall, 3-3 in division play) needed a late comeback to get past host El Camino, 73-70, on Feb. 6. Elijah Evans made two jumpers in the final minute, the second with 14 seconds left for the winning basket.
Ley McGovern scored a team-high 22 points, Keishawn Ross Jr. had 14 points, and Evans finished with 13 points. Israel Nansha was also instrumental as he scored eight points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked five shots.
Prior to a 90-78 loss at tied for first-place and state #30-ranked Los Angeles Southwest on Feb. 4, Compton outlasted visiting LA Harbor, 79-76, on Jan. 30. The Coyotes trailed 42-41, then went on a 19-4 run to take control.
McGovern came off the bench to score 20 points and add seven rebounds, Deuce Roberts registed 18 points, and Ross contibuted 11 points.
Nathan Ibarra is the state leader in free throw accuracy as he has converted 58 of 62 shots at the line for a remarkable 93.5 percent efficiency.
With four games remaining in the '25-26 regular season, Compton travels to face #6-ranked and South DIvision co-leader Cerritos College in a 5 p.m. tip-off tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 11).
