Compton's Track And Field Season Concludes
The Compton College men's and women's track and field teams took part at the South Coast Conference Championships at Long Beach City College on April 26.
The 4x100 meter relay squad that consisted this season of sophomore Reese Stephenie, and freshmen Nathan Ibarra, Christian Smith, and Donovan Hil raced a season-best of 46.63 seconds.
In the 4x400 relay of Ibarra, Puttinan Kongpol, Smith and Hill went 3:50.72, but had a season-best 3:48.68 at the Cerritos Invitational earlier in April. Compton was able to score four team points allowing the progam to place seventh as a team. Freshman Bryan Delgado also was part of the team's relays this year.
Hill proved to be Compton's top performer at the conference meet as he raced a 12.07 (his fastest this year at 11.93) in the 100 and 53.23 in the 200 at the SCC Prelims also at LBCC on April 22. In the long jump, he was 15th overall with a leap of 19-9.5 feet (6.03 meters). Hill had a season-best 19-10.75 at the Pasadena Invitational Mar. 21.
Smith recorded the team's fastest 100 when he posted an 11.41 at the Long Beach Invitational on Mar. 7. He also was tops in the 200 with a 24.17 at the El Camino Dave Shannon Invite meet on Mar. 29.
On the women's side, Mia Young scored sixth in the 100 hurdles at 18.56 and seventh place in the long jump with a personal best leap of 16-3 (4.45m). She scored Compton's five team points as the small group finished seventh as a team.
Young's best time in the hurdles was a 17.77.
Tyshay Johnson raced 28.84 in the 200 prelims race. She posted a 1:29.87 in the 400 hurdles earlier in the year.
Compton's teams are directed by head coach David Austin.
