David Austin will begin his seventh year in charge of the Compton College men's and women's track and field teams in 2025-26. From Los Angeles, Austin had 10 previous years of experience as a head track and football coach, athletic performance trainer, and strength and conditioning coach.

Austin’s track and football career began during his time at Gardena High, where he held a position as head coach for football. He attended East Los Angeles College where he played two seasons on the Huskies football team as a defensive back, completing his AA before receiving a scholarship to Arkansas at Monticello.

Austin completed his undergraduate degree at Cal State Los Angeles and later attended graduate school at Concordia University Irvine. He holds a bachelor’s degree in social work, a master’s in coaching and administration, and a certification in sport base youth development coaching as a sports social worker.

Austin enjoys inspiring young student-athletes to become accomplished men and women by passing on his knowledge of values on life, family, education, health, and sports.
