Bio
Coach Riki Harada arrives at Compton College for his first season on the women’s basketball staff, bringing over a decade of valued experience and a history of helping elevate programs and student-athletes. Head Coach Ollie Brent initially connected during their tenure at Long Beach City College—where their shared vision and work ethic formed a strong coaching partnership, with Coach Harada serving as a valuable assistant.
From 2012-2025, Harada served as an LBCC assistant coach. During his time there, he contributed to multiple playoff-caliber teams, aided in daily practice management, opponent scouting, skill-development planning, and player mentoring. Harada was an assistant for the Vikings in a stretch where that program won eight South Coast Conference South Division championships, including the last five straight..
Before his time at LBCC, Coach Harada spent seven years at Magnolia High, where he assisted both the boys and girls varsity programs. During his tenure there, the girls program claimed seven Orange League titles, secured a CIF Southern Section playoff berth twice, captured one CIF Regional championship, and made an appearance in the CIF State Championship final. Additionally, the boys team won one Orange League title under his assistant-coaching direction. :Brent said: "Riki's work in those years laid the foundation of his coaching identity: player-first, fundamentally strong, and relentlessly process-oriented."
Beyond the court, Harada is a community pillar—volunteering at his local church, OCBC, and dedicating significant time to youth development. For more than 10 years, he has coached a girls high-school team participating in the SEYO league, helping younger athletes build confidence, conditioning, and fundamentals.
"What makes Coach Harada such an asset is his combination of experience, consistency, and character. He is known for his detailed approach to scouting opponents, his deliberate practice layouts, and his ability to connect with players on a personal level—helping them handle the demands of scholarship recruitment, academics, and athletic growth. He meshes seamlessly with Coach Brent’s philosophy of discipline, unity, and competition.
"In short, Coach Harada is more than a strategist—he is a builder of programs, a mentor of young women, and a trusted partner in taking Compton College Women’s Basketball to the next level"
